There is no beginning to that
which has come before,
Nor end to that which will come after.
Thought is the one interrupting
the course of time
and measuring it.
Thought discerns that night follows day,
that death follows life, that some things are small
while other are large.
What is large or small, light or dark,
future or past to the Universe?

It is an opportunity to get relevant information on the "Buddhist scene" in our country, on present traditions, on teachers, and on ways one can join any of the groups.

CYCLE OF LECTURES "What did the Buddha Teach", starting on October 27, 2001
The first cycle of lectures in this season's program is on the basic teachings of Buddhism that are common to all later schools, the principles derived from them, and on the use of these principles in daily life. The course is aimed primarily at those who had not met with the rich Buddhist tradition before, and is intended to provide a general introduction into Buddhism's history, philosophy, culture and practice. Along with an outline of different schools of Buddhism and divergences of Buddhist thought, the lectures will also deal with the Buddha's life, meaning of the Three Jewels, the Four Noble Truths and development of Boddhi mind. You can also sign up for morning zen yoga at the Center.

DHARMA TRANSMISSION
An important event for our Community happened last spring, on the 1st of June, when, at the end of a two-week chan retreat in the USA, our teacher Žarko Andričević, received the Dharma transmission from his master, Shih-fu Sheng Yen. Transmission is an act by which a master recognizes his disciple for his Dharma heir, passing on to him to teach and spread the Dharma, with a blessing and the recognition that the disciple has the ability to do so. This is a very rare event, because one teacher often "transmits" the Dharma to only a few disciples, among thousands. At least this is the case with Chan Master Sheng-Yen, who made Žarko his fourth Dharma heir. This is a great honor and responsibility for Žarko personally but also an event that has great importance for our whole Community, with positive effects that will spread far into the future. We congratulate Žarko, and wish him to continue cultivating tranquillity and illumination within himself, and to continue bringing joy and understanding to others.
